My father, Conley Silsby, who will be 100 years old in January, has been telling us about his family trip when he was 5 years old in their 1912 EMF. The Omaha newspaper printed a picture of the 5 of them in their dusters before they headed to Oklahoma from their farm 2 miles east of Pisgah, Iowa. The "main" roads all ran East and West, so in order to go South, they would get directions from one farm road to another to reach the next East/West road. There were no gas stations. They would get gas out of a barrel in the back of a hardware store. The headlights, tail lights, top, windshield and spare tire were all "extras."Since motels were not yet in existence, they would stop at a farmhouse and ask if they could stay for the night. Later, a number of the families they stayed with came and visited them in Iowa.

We just discovered your web site and are anxious to explore it. We have a 1912 Flanders 20 Touring car, a 1911 Flanders motorcycle, and a 1914 Flanders motorycle. We are not related to Walter Flanders that we know of. We have Flanders Company (motorcycle accessories) in Pasadena, California. We have been making motorcycle handlebars since 1945(www.flandersco.com). I hope that as part of the 100 year anniversery tour you will be going to Chelsea, MI, home of the Flanders motorcycle factory. When I was in Detroit for my first time 3 years ago I was able to go by the EMF plant in Detroit and, later, I think I found the motorcylcle factory building in Chelsea. It was an old brick building by the railroad tracks. A couple blocks away was a street named Flanders.

a nieghbor of ours had an EMF car, stored it in a barn for many years.....a ground fire got away one day and burnt barn and car....that was very bad

When I read your account of finding the EMF it reminded me 40 years ago when my father said, "I think I know where there's a old car. Wanna go look?" We found in a hanger at the Quakertown, Pa. airport a 1922 Nash Sport Touring. Complete and even drivable. Some of my teenage years were spent going to shows and around antique cars and I remember them with great fondness. Guess what I've been craving to do with my own sons? Time and money can be rare commodities but I'm still looking for the right car at the right time. Good luck with your EMF>

Just LOVE the web-sight what a great job!!! I seen it at work and it was a good pick-me-up.I belong to the Jordan club, because I have a 1930 Jordan Great Line 90 "G". 5pass 4dr that is all original and untuched at 47.908 miles.
